How Etsy fees usually stack

An etsy fee calculator has to combine more than one line item. US sellers commonly pay a transaction fee around 6.5% of the order (item + shipping + gift wrap), plus payment processing near 3% + $0.25, plus a $0.20 listing fee when you publish. Offsite Ads can add a large success fee on attributable orders and is not modeled here.

If you also sell on eBay, open the eBay fee calculator side by side. Marketplace fee shapes differ even when the sticker price looks identical.

Worked example

A $38 item with $4.50 shipping totals $42.50. Transaction fee ≈ $2.76. Processing ≈ $1.53. Listing $0.20. Estimated fees ≈ $4.49, so you keep about $38.01 before materials and ads.

FAQ

Renewals? Auto-renew listings charge the listing fee again. Toggle the checkbox off if you already amortized that cost.

Pattern by Etsy? Subscription tools are separate from marketplace selling fees.

Listing cadence and amortized fees

The $0.20 listing fee looks trivial until you publish hundreds of variants. Auto-renew can quietly rebill listings that never sell. Use this calculator with the listing checkbox on when you are pricing a single new SKU. Turn it off when you are modeling a repeat sale on an already paid listing. That small toggle keeps the effective fee percentage honest.

Transaction fees apply to item price, shipping, and gift wrap. Undercharging shipping to win the click still inflates the percentage fee base if buyers pay that shipping at checkout. Model both free-shipping-baked-in retail prices and a la carte shipping so you see which path leaves more cash after Etsy's cut.

Offsite Ads and star seller tradeoffs

Offsite Ads can take a substantial success fee on attributable orders. New shops may have limited control. Because those fees are campaign-like rather than universal, they stay out of the default math. If Ads are on, add a separate percentage on top of the estimate before you approve wholesale cartons or custom commission work.

Comparing Etsy to eBay for the same craft SKU

eBay's final value fee often sits higher as a single percentage, while Etsy splits transaction and processing. Run both calculators with identical item and shipping inputs. Include your expected ad spend on each channel. The cheaper fee host is not always the better channel once conversion rate and return rate differ.

Wholesale and custom order caveats

Large custom orders may move off Etsy onto invoices. When that happens, switch to PayPal or Stripe math and drop marketplace transaction fees. Keep screenshots of the fee schedule dated in your SOP so contractors pricing commissions use the same assumptions.

Operational checklist after you price

Update shipping profiles, confirm category, disable accidental renewals on dead SKUs, and revisit prices after any public fee change. Recalculate hero products quarterly. Search demand for etsy fee calculator spikes when Etsy announces adjustments, so keeping this page factual and dated helps both users and crawlers.

Probe notes

Etsy search volume is smaller than eBay or PayPal, yet the fee stack confuses new makers. This page spells out transaction plus processing plus listing so the calculator result matches how sellers talk in forums. EverBee remains a Coming affiliate placeholder aimed at research workflows after pricing is clear.

We will revisit Offsite Ads modeling only if GSC shows demand for that modifier. Until then the default form stays intentionally simple and honest about what it excludes.

Shipping profile hygiene

Flat shipping that is too low wins clicks and loses margin after percentage fees. Recalculate whenever carrier rates move. If you bake shipping into item price, still run the calculator with shipping set to zero and item price raised, then compare to a split model. The better net wins, not the prettier listing layout.
